Schloss Vollrads 2006 Qualitateswein Riesling
German Riesling is terribly underrated. I know this, and you know this. But let’s not fly off the handle and tell eveyone we know. At the moment you can stroll into a good wine store, drop 20-25 bones or clams or whatever, and come away with with a world-class wine for half as much as you might spend on say a comparable white Burgundy. And in a time when a weak dollar and rising gas (and therefore trucking) costs are sending wine prices soaring, it’s a relief to know that Germany still offers such value. And so we come to the Schloss Vollrads ‘06 Qualitateswein Riesling. It is currently my go to wine when someone asks what can someone get out of a great German Riesling. The nose offers a wonderful bright lemon citrus that is dominated by slate. These elements carry over to the palate and are met by significant but balanced acidity. And this wine really is all about balance. You can hold this wine in your mouth for 30-40 seconds, and it will still mainting its structure. I paired this with shrimp croquettes, stuffed mushrooms, and steamed asparagus with a lemon butter sauce. The results were quite rad. I’ll try to get a recipe up soon.

Liked the post on Riesling….keep up the good words, there needs to be more people who know about riesling and how dang good it really is…also, how good German Riesling is compared to other parts of the world. I am not saying that other countries dont make good riesling…the US makes good cars, Germany makes luxury cars…if you want a step up in quality, BUT not in price always go for a good German Riesling Producer…like Vollrads
